Laboratory Services

When you have a health problem, your doctor may order blood tests, imaging, or other tests to help pinpoint the cause of the problem. When your pet has a health problem, we will often recommend similar tests to determine the cause and seriousness of your pet’s condition. Depending on the tests needed and the facilities available at your veterinarian’s clinic, the tests may be performed in-house or at a laboratory or test facility in another location. Our onsite and contract laboratory services allow us to provide reliable, accessible, efficient, and innovative diagnostic testing. We can provide services such as chemistry analyses, cytologies, parasite testing, genetic testing, complete blood counts (CBC), biopsies, allergy testing, and additional testing as needed.

Routine Screenings

We recommend wellness blood work as part of your pet’s annual exam. This allows us to establish a baseline and monitor for any changes before your pet may begin exhibiting signs of illness. Our standard panel includes checking a complete blood count (cbc), 19 panel chemistry profile, T4 (thyroid), and urinalysis.

If your pet is on a long-term medication, we will want to check this panel twice a year to monitor your pet’s organ function and ensure that the medication is not having any adverse effects.

For dogs, we also recommend once a year testing for heartworm and tick-borne diseases. Our test screens for the tick borne diseases lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis. This is included with the wellness blood work or can be done separately. Even if your pet is on preventative medications year-round, no preventative is 100% effective and it is easy to miss a dose here and there. If your pet misses more than two doses in a row, we may recommend retesting before restarting the medication to ensure that your pet is heartworm free. If your pet is off heartworm prevention for more than six months or only receives it seasonally, we will require a heartworm test prior to restarting the medication.

For both dogs and cats, we recommend checking a fecal sample for parasites as a part of their annual exam.
